Fast and Cheap Home Decorating Ideas to Help Your Family
Simple Decorating Ideas
Once upon a time decorating one’s home was as simple as picking up the phone
and calling a professional decorator. There are still those for whom this is the norm. For the rest of us, decorating our homes is something that we see as unaffordable. There are a lot of people who do not fully decorate their homes (some do not decorate at all) because they think doing so is too expensive. It is quite possible to decorate an entire home without ignoring your budget! These are all things that you can do in your spare time and with very little money. Home Decorating ideas can be simple!
Start small and try not to go overboard. Begin with a few decorative ideas on items that you really like and then use those to inform the rest of your decorating themes. Instead of buying up everything that you think will look good save your money for a few quality pieces that you truly love.
If you go to fast to soon you’ll be more likely to feel the “redecorating itch.” Going slow means that you can create a decorating scheme that you truly love and appreciate. If you go slowly you’ll create a better overall feel for your home.
Here are a few decorating ideas you can use to decorate your home beautifully and inexpensively.
Decorating Ideas on Budget
Start small and try not to go overboard. Begin with a few decorative items that you really like and then use those to inform the rest of your decorating themes. Instead of buying up everything that you think will look good save your money for a few quality pieces that you truly love. Simple decorating ideas don’t have to cost a lot of money.

You don’t have to decorate exclusively from super expensive galleries and art shows. It isn’t important that you get a bunch of original art work right away. Prints are a great way to have fantastic art for less money.
It is way cheaper to buy prints. Prints are more affordable and they are easier to get home. Prints are usually made in standard sizes which makes the framing of them easy-you can even do the framing yourself. All you have to do is find a frame that you like at a sale and you can do the framing yourself. You can do this on the weekend or the evenings and you won’t have to worry about rushing to pick up your art before the framer closes and you won’t have to worry about how you are going to afford that painting you love so much by your favorite artist.
Second Hand Store Decorating Ideas
The thrift store is your friend. You can find fantastic deals and some pretty creative decorating ideas at thrift stores as well as at other types of used and second hand stores. Identifying the good stuff at a thrift store gets easier over time and once you know how to do it you can save tons of money. Turning thrift store finds into home decorations is easy; you simply need some time and imagination.
All you need is some patience and even the funniest looking clothes on the racks can be turned into things of beauty for your home. The best donated items can be found in bigger cities or wealthy neighborhoods.
Believe it or not you can get some unique decorating ideas from dumpsters, they can be gold mines at the right times of the month and year. Do you live near an apartment complex or in a neighborhood that constantly has people moving in and out? Make a habit of wandering through a few times a month. You will be amazed by the sheer amount of stuff people will throw away at the last minute just because it won’t fit into a moving van. You will be amazed at what you can find-you might find enough beautiful things that you don’t have to buy anything at all to decorate your house. Just be sure to make sure that what you find at the curb is not still wanted. It isn’t hard to knock on the house door and ask the person who answers if you are allowed to take the items that have been placed at the curb.

Find Decorating Ideas on the Internet
Use the internet for creative decorating ideas. Lots of artsy types sell their work over the internet. If you are looking for handmade goods for affordable prices you can usually find great stuff on Etsy. Many artists upload their work for free to community sites like Flickr where you can look through their portfolios for free. You can also purchase decorative art through artist’s personal websites. There are great and affordable deals all over the world wide web-you don’t have to stay with the traditional sites like Ebay or Amazon.
Your local newspaper has a classifieds section and most towns have their own Craigslist-make use of those. It’s easy to find great deals and decorating ideas through the classifieds and Craigslist. Surfing through the classifieds or sites like Craigslist could help you decorate all the rooms in your home! Lots of people place their own ads with lists of things they want to find for decorating their homes. This allows the buyers to search for you while you are searching for them which will save everyone time!
Remember to practice common sense! Be sure to look at each item you want to buy before actually giving the seller your money. Decorating a home does not have to be expensive. There is no need to dedicate great chunks of time to home decorating. Having fun is the point of decorating your house! When a home decorating project takes up all of your time, empties your bank account and causes you a lot of stress it is harder to enjoy the finished project.
Repainting Decorating Ideas
Repaint. When coming up with repainting decorating ideas, the key to painting your home is to choose neutral tones for most of the home and then to use bolder colors as accent pieces. When you paint the majority of your home in neutral tones it is easier to choose your decorative items because you won’t have to worry about anything clashing with the wall. Leaving most of the walls neutral but painting one of the shorter walls in a different shade is a good idea as well. When one wall is a different color than the rest in a room it is called an accent wall and it is something that decorators love to do. Making an accent wall can be done cheaply and in no time at all! Repainting becomes less of a chore when you use accent walls because you only have to repaint the single wall instead of the rest of your home.

Turn any room in your home into a Tuscan dream escape!
Creative Decorating Ideas
Have you thought about using the gifts that people have given you? We all have a few decorative items that we keep hidden away and only display when the person who gave them to us comes over. Have you thought about just leaving them out? This is a great way to decorate your home while you save up the money you need to buy the pieces that you truly want and that blend in with your decorating scheme.
Keeping the items on display will save you a lot of stress because this way you won’t have to worry about anything if the person who gave you that crazy statue shows up for an impromptu get together. Unique decorating ideas can be fun!
Inexpensive Decorating Ideas
If you can keep yourself from getting carried away, you shouldn’t have any problems. Monetary worth does not have to be a major characteristic of any decorating ideas that you come up with. Don’t go hog wild with expensive galleries and showings. Choose pieces that you like and that you think work well with what you already have. Take a look around-you probably already own a bunch of great pieces! Use your imagination! Even a wicker basket filled with pine cones from the back yard can be decorative! Consider your first instincts and then ask yourself “how can I do that…but cheaper?”
There is no law that says home decorating has to be an expensive endeavor. There is no need to dedicate great chunks of time to home decorating. Decorating should be an enjoyable experience. You won’t be able to enjoy your home’s décor if all you can think about is how much time it cost you and how much money you spent on the project. It is possible to save lots of money on your decorating ideas!

Very good advice about going slow to avoid the redecorating itch! I often recommend decorating in phases, and practice this in my own home.
I also recommend that you buy a small photo album or notebook and place pictures of the things you already have assembled for the room (this will also include the paint sample cards you used for the walls) this way when the decorating itch strikes you have a reference to guide you in your future selections.
This is especially important because there is no such thing as “color memory”…You may think the reds or blue or greens match…but when you get home you find out it was close but not quite right.
The one thing I didn’t see mentioned is decorating with artwork your children have made (if you have children). I have two awesome “oceanic style” masks that were made by two of my kids when they were in elementary school. They think it’s cool to see how small their faces were way back when and the designs they painted on them work well within my travel themed room.
